Christopher McDermott

Christopher started his career in the mid-70s, teaching theological and biblical subjects for prospective African ministers in Zimbabwe and later in South Africa. After witnessing the bush war waging in Zimbabwe and the impact of apartheid on communities, an early interest in conflict and its resolution took root and would become a leitmotif in his ministry as a priest.

Later in his career, Christopher pursued further academic work in the USA, before moving to East London in the mid-80s, working as a parish pastor, priest and community mediator. By January 2014, he’d moved to Brighton and assumed the role of Lead Chaplain at the University of Sussex. He is also a Ph.D researcher and much of his work also includes facilitating meditation sessions for students and members of staff.
